The Docey Dandies Square Dance Club is primarily a social club. We often refer to Square Dancing as “friendship set to music.” We are all about building friendships and having fun, while engaging in a healthy and wholesome activity. The real benefits are the people we meet and the memories we make. Modern square dancing is done to a variety of music including classic, western, oldies, gospel and pop music. We also do line dancing, round (couples) dancing and other dancing that falls under the umbrella of square dancing depending on the interests of our members.
As a club, we try to plan and organize activities to promote our goals. This includes teaching new dancers and making sure they have fun from the first day. It also includes developing and retaining our current members as they continue dancing, branch out, become better dancers, or even callers. In addition to square dancing, Docey Dandies’ members have been known to travel, sew, exercise, decorate, clean, go to the Royals game, or have breakfast or dinner together. We also participate in several community service activities.
Our club is located in Gardner, but members come from all surrounding cities and towns including Olathe, Shawnee, Overland Park, Spring Hill, Osawatomie, Edgerton, and Garnett. We range in age from 12 to 88 years old. We currently have several two-generation and a couple three-generation family groups in our club. Occupations include teachers, auto mechanics, farmers, engineers, factory workers, barbers, lawyers, college instructors and retired persons to name a few. I hope this gives you a feel about us. We are looking forward to meeting you!
See you in a square,
