Events: Johnson County Fair & Johnson County Parade

Hope everyone is having a great summer!

This week we are having our first demo/promotion activities for the club that the Membership Committee needs your help with:

Event 1: This Thursday (July 30th) we  will have our demo at the Johnson County Fair from 6:30 to 10:00 at the Fairgrounds in Gardner. Mike will be calling for us. Daryl and Lynda are coordinating for the club. Please contact them for details. Main help they will need will be dancers to act as angels. Last year was a big success in that we had lots of guests getting up, dancing and having fun with Mike!

Event 2: Johnson County Parade (Gardner) 10:30 Saturday August 1st. We will have a float in the parade. We will have a float decorating “party” Wednesday night July 29th from 6:30 pm till we are done at George Wise’s place (see email for address). Our intention with the Float is NOT to win the Parade contest, but instead to show our stuff to the people attending the parade. That means the decorating should go fairly fast as we plan to re-use material that we already have in our possession. We are intending to have one square of dancers on the float with several people available for relief. Any questions please contact Doug. Charlie will be playing pre-recorded music for us to dance to.

Hope to see you at one or both of these events!

Doug and Sandy

Hotel rooms for Des Moines Nationals in June 2016              from Arlene Truitt

A few people have expressed interest in staying all together in the same motel for Nationals in Des Moines, Iowa next June. So I am coordinating to find a hotel where we can block out so many rooms. This is something that needs to get booked before too long. I am finding some motels are already booked full. When I book a block of rooms, we are not committed to taking all of them and do not have to pay at this time. We can cancel anytime up to two weeks ahead of the convention. If you think you might be going and want to stay in the same motel, then please let me know and I can get some prices for us. What I am finding out, is that we can get a better price if we have at least 10 or more rooms blocked out. Once I have an idea of how many might be interested in this, then I can get the prices back to you.I am open to suggestions or any input you may have.
Thanks, Arlene

July 30, 2015 - Fair Dance Demo ~ from Doug & Sandy

Hello Docey Dandies Members,

I hope everyone is enjoying the arrival of long, hot summer days.  We have decided not to have the Impromptu summer dance that has been discussed.  It looks like the hall availability and peoples’ schedules just don’t match up.  However, there are some more opportunities to dance, even for the beginners.

The FAIR DANCE IS July 30, Thursday, at 6:30.  We will be dancing at the Midway stage at the Johnson County Fairgrounds in Gardner.  This is an open pavilion a couple buildings North of the Grange.  We will be encouraging fair-goers to try square and line dancing, plus we will do a couple demos of mainstream dancing.  All members are encouraged to attend and are welcome to bring non-dancers.  We will all need to help with recruitment during this event.  It will be hot, so dress is casual, and we can take turns dancing.  Only Mike will be on the stage, not us dancers!

The annual Happy Time Squares Boots, Bows and Barbecue will be on August 29, 5: 30-6:30 dinner and 7-10 dance at the 4H Fairgrounds, 2120 Harper, Bldg 21, Lawrence.  This is a special dance that many of us Docey Dandies attend.  For $10, you get a great BBQ dinner, a huge assortment of desserts and dancing!  The first tip after dinner will be an introduction to square dancing for non-dancers and dancers alike.

And, of course, our first dance for the new season, Jungle Book Dance, will be September 12th at 7:30.  So, break out the animal prints, and let’s get dancing!!!

Sandy and Doug Finnicum, Presidents
