4/30 Upcoming Club Events ~ from Tom & Susan

4/30/2018

Hey everyone,

May is going to be a busy month for our club so we thought we'd get the word out early so you can consider and plan to include these events on your busy calendars.

Dancing Opportunities:
Next Friday, May 4, we travel to Osawatomie to enjoy Frontier Twirlers' anniversary celebration. Rounds begin at 7pm and "Retired" Vic Perry will call the dance at 7:30pm at the community auditorium.

Tuesday, May 8, is Graduation Night at the Grange. Pot Luck dinner at 6:30pm and lessons/dance begin at 7pm. HOA and NEKSDA officers have been invited. Please come and dance with our new graduates and welcome them to our club.

On Saturday, May 12, we will travel to Lawrence to dance with Happy Time Squares. The theme is "Maye's Day Dance" with Caller Chris Wildhagen. Rounds/lines @7pm with Squares 7:30-10pm.

Our BIG EVENT is at 7pm, Tuesday, May 15, when we will have our Club Planning Meeting at the Grange Hall. A pizza/salad buffet will be provided with water and coffee. Bring your own sodas if you prefer. We will finalize our schedule for next season and discuss several other issues.

We also need your help. Please email back to this address your ideas for dance themes for next season, e.g. "Johnny Cash Night" or "Stars and Stripes Night". This is just another way to be involved in planning for YOUR club.

We hope to see you at several if not all of these events. See you in a square!

4/12 Club Update ~ from Tom & Susan

Hi Docey Dandies,

Thanks to everyone who participated in last week's retrieval of our banner from the Ottawa Promenaders and those who joined us for a very successful club potluck dinner before lessons on Tuesday. The food display was "impressive" according to a long-time member.

Remember our Luau dance this Saturday evening at the Grange. Students will begin at 6:00pm with a lesson with Mike. Just a couple of new steps will be added. We will need angels as always.

The dance begins at 7:30pm with the first two tips being student friendly so give our "almost graduates" a taste of a real dance. Plus tips on the hour and we'll dance until 10:00. We hope to see you in a square!

UPCOMING EVENTS: Travel Dance to retrieve our banner from Crosstrailers April 21 "Singing in the Rain" dance. Caller: Stan Brooke Dance begins 7:30 at Graceway Church Fellowship Hall. 5460 Blue Ridge Cutoff. Raytown, Mo.

Advisory Board planning meeting Sunday, Apr 22, 1:00pm at Perkins in Gardner. Perkins sponsors much of our club printing so please plan to thank them while we're there.

Club Update 4/4/18 ~ from Tom & Susan Bender

Hi everyone,

We have a great group of students this Spring and they're more than half way to the finish line of their lessons. Next Tuesday's lessons begin at 6:30pm and our whole club is invited to a pot luck before we begin and then Mike is going to put the students through what they've learned so far. We need all of you to support the students by being there, meeting them, and, with more available, we can have them dance with more and different experienced dancers to help them enjoy a "real" dance experience.

Friday night we will be going to Osawatomie where our own Chuck Owings will be calling at the Frontier Twirlers. We always enjoy our times there. Here are the particulars:  Friday, April 6, 2018, Frontier Twirlers,    Caller: Chuck Owings, Rounds: Pam Young, Mainstream/Plus Tips/Rounds, Pre-Rounds 7:00 - 7:30 PM, 7:30 - 10:00 PM Square Dance, Osawatomie City Auditorium, 425 Main Street, Osawatomie,  Kansas 66064, Under The Rainbow Dance, Northeast District, Kansas Square Dance Association,      18-04-06-30

Then on Saturday we will have an official travel dance to Ottawa Promenaders where we will retrieve one of our banners. We need a crowd from our club to join us to accomplish this. The details are:   Saturday, April 7, 2018, Ottawa Promenaders,    Caller: ?,  Mainstream/Rounds,  Plus 7:30 PM, Dance 8:00 PM, Washburn Towers, Square Dancers Park On Outside Circle, 506 South Main Street, Ottawa,  Kansas 66067,  Northeast District, Kansas Square Dance Association,

We hope to see you all Friday or Saturday and Tuesday, or, all three. See you in a square.

10/5/2017

President’s Report: We have another fun filled year ahead of us with a lot of great dances and activities scheduled. If you have any ideas you would like to see the club participate in, please let us know as we are always looking to do new and exciting fun things. This does not have to be dancing related and we can help with some of the planning if needed.

DUES: Reminder that club dues are due now. If you haven’t already, please pay Ken or Suzann as we need to get our club paperwork sent into the HOA and KSDA right after our October 14 dance. Forms are available at our lessons on Tuesdays and our regular club dances. If you want or need a new badge, let Ken know and you must pay in advance. We will be ordering badges the week of October 16.

HOA Fed Facts and the KSDA membership forms are available from Ken & Suzann. By joining the KSDA you get the Travel On Magazine along with discounts at KSDA/NEKSDA dances and information on all the Kansas clubs activities.

The HOA Fed Facts has been a big supporter of the Docey Dandies with several recent articles and pictures of our club activities which you cannot see on the internet. There is also information in this publication for all the area cub’s activities in the Greater Kansas City Area.

LESSONS: Tonight, is the last night to bring in new students. Our first potluck dance is next Tuesday October 10. If you have anyone interested, try your best to bring them tonight. Our next set of lessons will start in January 2018

Mike is working with the band to fine tune the music choices and have a fun dance for all!

Baldwin City Maple Leaf Parade: The Docey Dandies along with the Ottawa Promenaders will again participate in the Maple Leaf Parade in Baldwin City.
