President’s Corner – Doug and Sandy
- Looks like it will be another great student class this year. Be sure to mark your calendar for the 1st lesson dance on Oct. 4th. It will be a pot luck meal followed by a dance. Mike will only do the calls that the students have learned up to the point. Everyone in the club is requested to attend as it is a great chance to show the students how much FUN we have square dancing at our club. Free to club members.
- Dancers still needed for some of the parades. See Donna and Charlie if you want to participate. (Donna – I may not be able to dance right now, but I can drive if you still need a driver - Doug.)
- Looks like we have another demo/recruitment opportunity similar to the Johnson County Fair. Mike is calling at the De Soto Days festival on Sept. 3rd from 4 to 6 at Miller park. Not our initial plan but it has also become a Docey Dandy event so we are going to treat it as a recruiting opportunity. Daryl and Leslie have put out signs in De Soto and will encourage any callers to come to the festival to try square dancing. Since I can't dance I will be working the recruiting table. We will need as many dancers as possible to help with the beginners. So if you are not doing anything next Saturday afternoon please come and help out!
- Travel dances are posted through the end of October so people can make their plans early.
As summer ends, it is time to start our new Square Dance Season and that means renewing memberships and signing up for hosting and greeting at dancers.
Membership Renewal: Form Attached.
We need for everyone to sign up using the attached sheet or printed sheets will be available starting at the first lesson. Club Membership dues are $15 per person. These dues pay for club expenses and insurance. In addition, you can sign up to receive publications from the local organizations we belong to. We will have samples of the Fed Facts and Travel On at the first lesson and first dance if you want to see them. Also, if anyone needs a replacement badge, it can be ordered at this time. The Membership sheet and dues need to be submitted by September 10 (our first dance.) This allows us to submit for club insurance in a timely manner.
Host and Greeter Sign-Up: Form from Arrangement Chair Attached.
We also need everyone possible to sign up for one dance to do hosting and one to do greeting. We have enough members now, that we can have two greeters and two hosts for each dance. Note, a couple signs up together as a one host or one greeter. Single members can sign up as pairs to do a job or alone. This should make hosting and greeting easier for everyone. New Members are encouraged to sign-up as a second host or greeter the first time. The other hosts/greeters along with our Arrangements chairs, Shirley Gillard and Susan Bender, will help you. The main sign-up poster will be at the Grange hall. You can sign up there or email your choices to Shirley or Susan.
Thanks. We are looking forward to seeing everyone at the first lesson next Tuesday September 6th and the first dance, September 10.

Here's the latest- Saturday, Sept 17th. Meet at 2pm at the Rising Sun boat ramp in Lecompton. (Directions will be provided with your reservation) Floating on the Kaw with Up A Creek Canoe and Kayak Rental. They will provide you with the boat, paddles and life vests. This float is approximately 3 1/2 hrs, and with a 1/2 hr picnic on any sandbar of our choosing. We should be off the water by 7pm.
You just need to decide which type of boat you prefer: single kayak $35, double kayak $45, canoe $50. Cash or check due the day of the float. I do need to provide an exact head count with your boat choice so they can have the correct boats loaded and ready for us that day.
