We hope you have had a safe and fun summer. Our club dances are soon to start along with lessons and travel dances. Let’s have a great dance year!
CLUB DANCES: Our first club dance is Saturday September 9th with the theme ‘Yankee Doodle Dandies’. Would you like to host or greet for this dance, or many of our other upcoming dances? Just let Shirley know at 913-375-6726 or email at [email protected], If you have never hosted, sign up to assist so you can learn the duties involved. Hosting is not hard and can be fun. You can have fun decorate or keep it simple with no decorations at all. Leslie & I have a photo book of all the club’s decorations you can choose from or you can be reimbursed for up to $25.00 for decorations which the club can use in the future.
LESSONS: Our lesson coordinators this year are Steve & Jen Wildman. They are ready for our mainstream lessons start on Tuesday, September 12 at 7:00-9:00pm at the Grange. Back by popular demand, we will continue the potluck lesson nights! If you haven’t asked your coworkers, friends or neighbors to join us, please do. Let them know how much fun and great exercise square dancing is. Attached is our fall lesson schedule. We will accept new students thru October 3 this year and after that date, any others will have to wait until January lessons.
DEMOS: De Soto Days Saturday, September 2, 2017 starting at 9am until about 10:30am. The event organizers have asked us to do a square dance demo before the parade begins. Mike will be calling this and is being paid by the De Soto Days organization. Mike would like our club to support this as it is another chance to get new students for lessons. We will be dancing in the street. It is our Main Street in De Soto. Right in front of Great American Bank. You can park in the bank parking lot off Wea street and 83rd Street. It will still be accessible at 8:30 am.
Thursday Sept, 7 at 6 – 6:45pm, Gardner Farmers Market demo. We will dance to several recorded songs like the parades. Other area dance studios have been invited and are attending that evening and dancing before us. Let Daryl know if you can help with this event. Dancing will be on the handicap cement slab at the entrance to the farmers market near E. Washington St.
Old Settlers Days Parade Saturday September 9th. Please let Lynda know if you can dance on the float. We will let you know our meeting location as soon as we receive the information. The Parade route will be as follows; It begins at the corner of KANSAS and LOULA Streets, goes EAST to CHESTNUT then NORTH to PARK then EAST and ends at BUCHANAN Street.
Prior to the parade, beginning between 7:00am and 7:30am the side roads will be shut down to clear the area for the parade and for assembling of the entries. It is suggested that you come early, grab a great parking spot in the parking garage, located on the corner of Loula and Cherry streets, and then you can enjoy the rest of the day. *Access to the garage will be shut down by 8:00am for the Parade and then reopened immediately after the parade.
Gardner Parks & Rec BBQ, Bingo and Boot Scootin, Friday, Sept. 15, 2017. 5pm dinner and bingo followed by our dancing demo at 6pm. This event will be held at the Open Class building at the JOCO Fairgrounds (white building in front to the Grange building). They would like us to do demo dancing for this event. If you want to eat and play BINGO, the cost is $15.00 and you need to RSVP to the Gardner Parks & Rec by September 8th. There is no cost if you only want to dance this night.
Ottawa Promenaders are also looking for some help if you can:
From the Promenaders” Hi- Our upcoming demo will be Sept 2, from noon until 2 pm. We will be dancing in the park just across the street from Washburn Towers, our usual dance location. We are hoping to have the hall open for those wanting to cool off or just rest a bit in the afternoon. We have a dance that night, too!
If anyone from your group would like to join the fun, they would be most welcome! I understand you already have an event that morning, so whatever works out will be just fine. This celebration is called 'Cowboy Days', all are taking place in that large park. In the past, there have been long horn cattle driven down Main Street and a parade, haven't heard what is planned for this year's event.”
