The Docey Dandies have been asked to host the Tenderfoot Dance NE District at Croco Hall in Topeka. The date is March 19, 2017 (a Sunday) at 2:00 p.m. Hosting involves setting up the hall with decorations and taking them down (they already have them). Last year the new dancers from the club indicated they really enjoyed this dance. I would like the club to host this dance. We could carpool with our new dancers to encourage them to attend. I am inclined to not have a club meeting to just discuss this. Anyone have a concern about us hosting this dance? “Ask Me to Dance” Program My foot has progressed to the point where I can dance again (yeah!). I will be volunteering to help out with the “Ask Me to Dance” program which has been going very well so far. Please consider also volunteering to help as we want to make sure people without partners have a chance to get out on the floor and enjoy dancing to Mike’s calling. Travel Chair We had 18 Docey Dandies at the Ottawa Promenader’s pig roast last Saturday. Good food and great calling made for a very enjoyable night. We will be travelling to the Live Wires this Friday. A carpool from the ACE hardware store at 135th st will head on over to Belton at 6:30 so we can be there in time to make the 7:00 Workshop. Location - Belton Christian Church, 409 Airway Lane (Airway Lane & Westover Road), Belton, Mo. Time – 7:30 PM - 10:00 PM Mainstream/Plus/Lines, Workshop 7:00 PM Caller – Peery Lindsey Theme – Veterans’ Day Dance Doug’s comments: Need to retrieve our banner!. Docey Dandies “All Aboard!” Train Dance This weekend we have our “All Aboard!” Train Dance. There will be lessons before the dance so no Plus workshop. Mike will call two student friendly Tips at the beginning of the dance for the students. Please be sure to greet our new students with a smile and make them feel welcome! Check out the bathrooms at the Grange Hall when you come to the dance. Daryl, Leslie, Loran and others have been hard at work replacing the tile and spiffing them up! They look great! Be sure to thank them for volunteering their time to make this happen! The improvements to the Grange building have cost the Grange well over $1000. They have made some Peanut Brittle and are selling it as a way to help pay for the improvements. The bags are 1 lb. in size and cost $10. If you are interested in some great Peanut Brittle please consider buying some at the dance this Saturday. President’s Corner – Doug and Sandy
At the end of September my mom passed away and I have been in Delaware for the last few weeks supporting my father as he goes through grieving for the loss of his sweatheart of 61 years. My mother was a wonderful person and I will miss her dearly. I am comforted to know she has gone to a better place. Thanks everyone for the kind words and the many cards. And thank you Daryl and Leslie for filling in wonderfully while Sandy and I were away. Real quick short note as I am swamped with things to catch up on. 1) Travel Dance One of our Docey Dandies, Chuck Owings, is calling. So of we will course we will be there! Please note that the location is back in Osawatomie. 10/21 Frontier Twirlers Location - Osawatomie City Auditorium, 425 Main Street, Osawatomie, Kansas Time – 7:30 PM - 10:00 PM, Caller – Chuck Owings, Theme - Pumpkin Patch Dance 2) Grange Apprecation Day I unfortunately missed this but I hear it went really well. Leslie is suggesting getting together on Saturday the 29th to finish painting the interior beams. Let her know if you can help. Now that we have wonderful lighting in the bathrooms we need to spiff them up a bit. Daryl is going to take on the bathrooms the weekend of Nov. 5th. I am going to help with this one as this has been on my list for some time. 3) Dance Night Recipe Booklet Diana Remund would like to put together a recipe booklet of people’s favorite dance night recipes. Please pick out a couple of your favorites and email them to her or bring in a hard copy to a lesson or dance. 4) “Spook”tacular Docey Dandies Dance Mindy is hosting our dance this weekend. Looking forward to seeing everyone on Saturday! Hello everyone, We have an opportunity to show our club colors tomorrow night (Thursday) in Paola. Every year the 4th, 5th & 6th grade boys have a date night with their moms and watch a movie. This year they want to dance with their moms! We would like every available Docey Dandies member to help with this event if possible. There could be between 80 - 150 boys and moms at this event. The start time for square dancing is 6:30pm- 7:30pm with line dancing (A gym teacher from Osawatomie is doing the line dancing) starting at 6:00pm if you are interested. The location is at the Sunflower Elementary School which is right behind the High School, which is behind the Walmart right off the 169 Highway exit. The dance theme is "Moms & Sons Kick up Your Heels at the Mom & Me BARN BASH"....(western wear). I have attached the information to this email, if you cannot open it, please call Donna or Me for more information. We are also offering new set of beginner square dance lessons starting Tuesday, October 18 in the Grange Kitchen. Mary & Sandy have agreed to teach this set of lessons with Mike's support. If you would like the share how much fun square dancing is with someone, please bring them on the 18th! Thank you, Daryl
I just checked with Up A Creek kayak company. The Kaw River depth right now is 5.9ft. Normal for this time of year is 18 inches. I'm sorry the river isn't how I described it would be in Sept. For safety's sake I am canceling our float trip. Please let me know if you would like to try again before it turns cold.
